Ensign Fleet

Overview

The “Little Big Boat”, the Pearson Ensign is the founding boat of Wayzata Yacht Club.  Designed by Carl Alberg and originally built in 1962, Ensigns are still manufactured today.  22.5 feet long we race with a main sail, a genoa or blade and a spinnaker.  At 3,000 pounds and with a full lead keel the Ensign is a sturdy well built vessel.  Don’t be fooled by the classic lines, beautiful teak and comfortable open cockpit, the Ensign is a blast on the race course.  Ideally raced with a crew of four, the helm has a nice feel at all points of sail.  Crew members will have fun hiking out on windy days and the spinnaker is always an adventure.

After you’ve mastered your racing skills, the Ensign is the best Lake Minnetonka cruising boat imaginable.  The deep cockpit helps even the most nervous guest feel safe as you pass around the drinks and snacks and the keel ensures a stable weed free ride.

Ensign Spars in Marquette Michigan is building new Ensigns today and are our go to source for new parts as well.

The Ensign Class Association keeps track of over 2000 Ensigns, organizes National Ensign regattas and supports the continued enjoyment of this classic one design boat.
