Tuesday Evening Spring Seminars on Rules Tactics and Strategy and Sail Shape and Trim
Bert Foster reviews the rules, tactics, and strategy of racing the first 2 Tuesdays.
Terry Foster and Gordy Bowers on the 3rd Tues. explain proper sail trim in terms everyone
understands. All the seminars are designed to both have fun and improve your sailboat racing skills.

April 28, May 5 and May 12
April 28: In the first seminar Bert addresses the rules tactics, and strategy after the start, for the upwind leg,
the Windward Mark approach and rounding, the downwind leg, the leeward mark rounding, and the
leeward gate rounding. The on the water training clinic the following Saturday is then designed to
enter all of those situations and to practice what they look like on the water.
May 5: In the second seminar Bert reviews the rules tactics and strategy around the course, and then
addresses the rules tactics and strategy of the start. The following Saturday are 2 ½ hours of starts
at three minute intervals. This is an opportunity for skippers and crew to get in more starts than they
do in an entire racing season.
May 12: In the third seminar Terry foster and Gordy Bowers describe what sail shape and trim should be in
both the upwind and downwind legs.
Time: 7:00-9:30 p.m.
Members: $15 per session or $35 for all three.
Non-Member:$20 per session or $50 for all three.

Bert Foster is a United States Sailing Association certified senior race officer and judge. He has taught many seminars about racing rules, tactics and strategy.
Terry Foster has given numerous seminars for yacht clubs all over the country and competed at a high level nationally. Starting in 2006 Bert spent 6 years on the United States Paralympic Sailing Team participating in 59 events in America and in England.
Gordy Bowers is a sail maker, former coach of the US Olympic team and the U of Minnesota.
